You Are What You Eat, Literally!

What you take in matters!

The fact you are a high valued woman with a tight stuffed schedule, means that you need fuel to keep you going by the day and when I say “fuel”, I just mean food.

As a mompreneur, there are some food that should be avoided, not only are they  unnecessary, they  can be unhealthy for you. Most times your type of food choices does not only influence you goals and targets but on a long run might create big problems for you. Bethany Frankel a reality TV personality and entrepreneur once said “your diet is a bank account”. Good food choices are good investments for your body meaning; What you put into your body is important for your personal development which would in turn, cause you to succeed everywhere else.

First things first, take out the junk. I know you might be wondering what food has to do with you striking your goals.  Well I can tell you one thing, that stuff called “junk” is really unhealthy, and if you really what to get those goals then you have to be deliberate about your food intake because eating unhealthy is a salve to the body and also to the mind.

When we take our vegetables and fruits, each of them contain certain nutrients that are very healthy for the body. Imagine eating for your mind? It is important to know that the human brain cell membrane integrity depends mostly on the quality of the fats you eat. The brain is largely made of fat and 60% weight. Thus we have to be more deliberate about what you take in. Recently I did a little research on some simple food we take in and I was fascinated about the whole health benefits of the coconut.

Every round coconut, contains cholesterol and guess what? cholesterol is good for your brain. The brain specifically needs cholesterol, and it also has greater cholesterol content than any other organ. About 25% of total body cholesterol is found in your brain. Actually Low cholesterol increases the risk of depression and suicide.

Every crispy bite from an apple releases nutrients into our human body and Working takes a lot of energy. Since we take our fruits and vegetables for healthy living, understanding them enables us to become deliberate about consumption. In this article, I would be sharing with you fruits and vegetables that I discovered can keep us driving.

Who knew that hot spicy stuff in our kitchen was good for the brain? Apart from it’s ability to aid digestion, pepper is able to improve cognitive function and memory. Pepper  stimulates the chemical pathways to the brain. Studies have  proven that  pepper  helps in preventing Alzheimer disease by healing the nerve damage which improves memory strength.

Black pepper contains piperine, which  is very beneficial for depression. It also helps enhance memory and improves brain functionality. Next on, Cabbage Is hardly anyone’s favourite food but this multiple layered fellow is packed full with the components for brain power. Study shows that it contains a good amount zeaxanthin and antioxidants lutein which help protect the brain against free age-related cognitive decline. Carrots; another pack of goodness. These colorful crunchy veggies are commonly known for their eye benefits however carrots contain  luteolin which helps reduce inflammation in the brain and helps us retain strong memory through the years.

Apart from being supple and delicious, Avocados contain  high amount of potassium, and are  rich in folate. As source of healthy unsaturated fat, they help support the brain. It is important to know that Eating monounsaturated fats may reduce blood pressure, and high blood pressure is linked with cognitive decline. By reducing the risk of high blood pressure,  unsaturated fats in avocados reduce the risk of cognitive decline. Avocados are also known  to prevent the formation of brain tangles which can cause Alzheimer’s.

Bananas are known to be rich sources of antioxidants, potassium, fiber, vitamin C and manganese, but did you know they are also healthy for your brain. Studies have shown that eating bananas can help students learn more effectively and improve in cognitive strength. This is because they also contain vitamin B6, which enhances  the production of norepinephrine, aserotonin, and dopamine in the body which aid concentration.

lastly, don’t forget to add groundnuts (groundnuts contain polyphenols which increase blood flow to the brain, thus improving cognition also it has the potential to enhance mood, which may also help to reduce depression).

Now knowing what your brain needs aids you to be deliberate about your diet.
