Motherhood is one of the most fulfilling roles in life, it’s a stage filled with so many changes, and sometimes, it can be overwhelming. Every mother needs to know how to work her way around this life-changing stage and balance it with her life and career goals. As a mum, it is required of you to give great importance to your kids, to help them and teach them growth but you also owe it to yourself to seek your purpose and happiness while doing so.
Sometimes, new mothers do a lot of courageous things like quit their jobs just to spend more time at home with their kids. While that is great, you don’t have to be in a uniform or suit, behind a desk in a separate building to achieve your own goals and secure your coins. These seven tips on how to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship would help you to make the best of both roles.
1: Get enough sleep;
Sleep is vital, and getting enough sleep is one of the essential ways to perfect and balance your life as a Mum and an entrepreneur. Science proves that the human body needs about eight hours of sleep every day. Taking enough rest after a long day of hustling and taking care of your kids is essential as a mum because it would enable your body to heal, fix itself from all that day’s work and prepare your body for another day’s work. Getting enough rest also keeps your mind in shape for proper planning.
2: Have a planner;
Having a planner, preferably one handwritten and one digital, in my opinion, is the best. There might be a situation where you will not have an internet connection, and you would have to use your handwritten planner. On various occasions, one of my sons is trying to get into my phone has disabled the phone for about fifteen minutes. Usually, when I want to check the phone to confirm an appointment or similar task. And I have to resort to my handwritten diary ( really a good backup). There are millions of planners out there, and I use a minimal planner that goes into my purse, which I find priceless. You can also have Google calendars set up, maybe one for work, and one for family. Or you can have one that combines the two, that way you can always see at a glance what you need to do and you can efficiently juggle your way through. There are apps available which are suitable for planning. It just depends on how techie or not you are.
3: Family time;
Maintaining a healthy relationship with each member of your family should not be overemphasised or taken for granted. You should make it a necessity always to take out time to catch up, Forget about everything else and just focus on them. You could take them out for lunch or Have a proper meal prepared at home together
4: prioritise your task;
As a mum and an entrepreneur, it is vital to embrace the art of making lists; I start my day off by writing down everything I need to do, and then I place them in order of importance, this has helped me a lot in getting things done. You might not have to finish everything on your list, but at least you will be able to tick off the crucial ones for the day, and you carry on the next day.
5: Set realistic expectations;
Understand your limitations and set realistic expectations for yourself. Even the best-laid plans are going to fall apart now and then, and you have to be able to roll with life’s punches. Only do just as much as you can handle, take your time, one step at a time, and you’d reach your goal before you know it. Slow and steady wins the race.
6:Recharge;
create time for yourself. It could be once a week, just go out there, treat yourself, have a blast, cool off steam. Reward yourself for a great job over lunch or a spa treatment. Take yourself out and bask at the moment, celebrate yourself, take care of yourself and your emotional state. You could go skating, tea with friends, a date with your husband, anything at all you’d like to do just to remind yourself that you’re in control. After all, you know what they say happens to Jack when he does all the work and doesn’t play at all.
7: Recognise your achievements, Praise yourself;
Make it a habit to recognise your achievements now and then. You’re a mum, and somehow, you’re managing to juggle it all up and make things work, It’s a superpower not everyone has. Get yourself a large mirror and place it in your bedroom. Look into it now and then and remind yourself how much of a strong woman you are, praise yourself, for being the best mum, and spouse and also for being the best version of yourself.
Say to yourself every day.
“I’ve got this, and I’m the best mother to my kids, I’m in charge, I can do this, I’d always be in charge.” And believe it because that’s what you are.
In charge!
