Song; “Its Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” by Michael BublĆ©.
It’s that time of the year again; Christmas! everyone’s favourite holiday and trust me, the perfect moment to bond with your kids. There are so many amazing things you can do with your kids this holidays. I have had so many requests over the years about the perfect way to celebrate Christmas , especially as a new mother. Well, its really not that difficult, just keep the little minions busy and excited. Here are different ways to have a great Christmas with or without a big budget;
Make them something to wish on; There is always this joy that comes with giving your children something to believe in, Santa Claus is the best for this occasion. While some parents do not believe in telling their kids a lie about a fictional gift giving, reindeer riding, sky driving entity, I would always advice parents to not take away the joy of every child hoping and wishing to get a gift from Santa every Christmas. Don’t be that parent that would like to take all the fun away from their children because they didn’t have a lot while growing up. it doesn’t matter how small your child is, tell them about Santa, make them something they can wish on, a Christmas tree for example. Spend sometime decorating one with them. let them choose the kinds of decorations that they would like to see on the tree. While you are designing the tree get them to tell you what they wish for, or what kinds of gifts they would want from Santa this year, tell them yours too. That way, you build closure and give them a memory to remember.
Shopping time; Personally, I love to shop, and you know what’s even better, shopping with my kids while they tell me about the things they like or their day. Shopping for Christmas has to be one of the fun things of the holiday. Spend some time taking the kids out to shop for Christmas. Let them get to choose what tree, or tree designs and ornaments that they like, they could even make the ornaments. Let them get excited about having to choose from varieties, food shopping could also work, let them choose what snacks they would like to eat too.
Play Chef; There is no Christmas without a Christmas meal. After shopping for the ingredients that would be used to prepare the perfect family meal with the kids, cook with them, or at least pretend to. Make them help you in the kitchen, let them wear an apron and do little harmless tasks like breaking or whisking the eggs, or grabbing the flour or even handing you a spoon. That way, they would also be in the Christmas spirit.
Carol n’ Karaoke; Children love to sing. It doesn’t matter how they might look like they are shy or timid, once the whole house starts to sing, they would join in and be happy about it. Set up a karaoke in the house, your Tv and speakers should do just the trick. Get a very homely Christmas playlist and get them to sing along. it doesn’t matter if its something they don’t know. Children are fast learners, it would only take them a second to get in tone. It would be a night that they would never forget.
DIY Gifts; Sometimes, before letting the kids know that you got them gifts, encourage them to make their own gifts to each other. Encourage them to channel their inner creativity on anything even if its a card. You could have them make it together in the same room while you supervise or you could have them make it secretly for each other. OMG! they would love that so so much. They would be excited at the thought of the gifts they could get from their siblings and that could go a long way in building closure among themselves.
Dinner With Friends And Family. sometimes, it could really help to surround your kids with people they are familiar with. Allow them spend a little part of the holidays with their friends. You could host their friends for dinner, or carol, or just anything else that your kids might like. Let them play dress up games and whatever else children do for fun. They would love it.
Treasure Hunt; Another thing that could really help is getting them excited about participating in a treasure hunt. You could hide their gifts around the house and help them with hints on how to find them, get them to run around the house and plan together, get them to want to be involved in the Christmas excitement.
Tell a story; This might have come a little bit late but it’s still a very great point especially since you’d be looking forward to spending more Christmas holidays with your kids as kids before they are all grown up. Representing the 24 days to Christmas and Christmas, you could buy 25 books and wrap them as gifts, number them and each day, read them to your children, preferably right before bedtime.
There are so many other ways to celebrate Christmas with your children. Christmas is such an important day and you have no idea how holidays like this can build the fountains and foundations of your best family moment with your kids, but remember, Christmas is not the end of the world, but only the introducer of a new year and a new world. There’s still going to be a lot of memories to make together and a lot of bills the next year. Don’t get too overwhelmed and break the bank without having to plan for the new year. Whatever your plans are for this Christmas, make it worth it, but make sure it’s WORTH IT!
I hope this holiday meets you and your loved ones well.
Merry Christmas šš
